Experience Japanese tradition and culture with over 1,200 years of Kyoto history, passed down to the present day. Create your own Hime Wagasa, a miniature Japanese umbrella, at the oldest established Japanese umbrella manufacturer, founded in 1690. Wagasa making is a unique experience exclusive to Kyoto and not widely available elsewhere.
In this 2-hour premium course, you will have the opportunity to craft a Hime Wagasa (approximately 33 cm in length and 42 cm in diameter). All materials used are sourced from Japan and are the same ones that the real Wagasa artisans use! As part of the premium plan, you can choose beautiful, vibrant red-dyed bamboo bones as the foundation for your umbrella.
Select your favorite Washi paper design, featuring options adorned with delicate gold flecks or real embedded autumn leaves. The Washi paper is original to Kyoto and sourced from traditional paper shops. Your completed Hime Japanese umbrella will come with a bamboo umbrella stand, a cosmetic case, and a carrying bag.
Wear a traditional happi, a tube-sleeved Japanese coat, and feel like a skilled artisan as you create a unique and colorful memory from your travels in Kyoto.
