Explore the best of Naramachi on a guided walking tour that combines local culinary delights with rich history. Led by a bilingual local guide, you will step off the touristic path to see places and experience things that most people wouldn’t do by themselves. Your journey begins with an appetizer of 2-3 traditional “Kaki no Ha Zushi” (sushi rolled in a persimmon leaf) from one of the best makers in the city. You will then visit the highly appreciated Harushika Brewery for a tasting session featuring 5 types of sake, with the possibility to buy souvenirs directly at their shop.
Next, enjoy a smooth and refreshing beer with snacks at a microbrewery in Nara’s old town, featuring a mix of traditional and modern styles created in 2017. For your early dinner, you will relax at a local restaurant where a food and drink set of authentic Japanese food is included for each guest. Along the way, if the timing is good, you will attend a session at the city’s most famous mochi maker and eat the freshest mochi just pounded a minute before in front of you. Finally, discover the history of the area by exploring a replica of a “Machiya”—a traditional Edo Period townhouse—to learn how people and businesses lived in the old part of town before the country opened to the rest of the world.
