The Osaka fall festivals of 2025 make autumn one of the best times to visit the city. As the weather cools down, it becomes far more comfortable to explore Osaka without the heavy summer humidity. From lively autumn festivals to peaceful walks under the full moon in Osaka Castle Park, there is plenty to experience before winter takes over.

If you’re visiting between September and November, here are a few seasonal events worth checking out.

Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri

This is one of Osaka’s most famous fall festivals — and definitely the most intense. In the town of Kishiwada, huge wooden floats are pulled through the streets at full speed by teams of local men. Each float is hand-carved and can weigh several tons. It is loud, fast, and packed with energy.

People line the streets to cheer as the floats fly around corners. If you want to see a side of Japan that is full of raw energy and local pride, this is it.

When: September 13 & 14, 2025

Kangetsu-sai at Sumiyoshi Taisha

The Kangetsu-sai, or moon-viewing festival, is held under the full harvest moon at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, a place with a poetic history. The festival focuses on traditional Japanese poetry — especially tanka and haiku — which priests read aloud from the shrine’s famous arched bridge. Following the readings, traditional dance performances add to the cultural atmosphere.

It is a special chance to connect with long-standing customs while enjoying the glow of the autumn moon.

When: Around September & October (dates vary each year with the harvest moon)

Yodogawa Fireworks Festival

Usually held in August, this year’s Yodogawa Fireworks Festival has been moved to October 18 because of the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The festival offers spectacular views of fireworks lighting up the river, and the cooler autumn air makes it a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot along the riverbank.

When: October 18, 2025

Midosuji Illumination

Usually starting late in the year, the Midosuji Illumination began as early as April this year due to the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The streets of Midosuji are lined with thousands of lights, creating a beautiful atmosphere that stretches from Umeda to Namba.

Visiting during the cooler months makes the festive mood even more enjoyable, with bright decorations lighting up the shop windows and adding to the seasonal spirit.

When: April – December 31, 2025
