    Discover the secrets of the Iya Valley on a Brompton bicycle during this small-group tour. Pedal through areas inaccessible by car at a relaxed pace, soaking in the ever-changing beauty of the valley along the vibrant Iya River. Along the way, you’ll visit unique landmarks such as the Hi no Ji Bend and the Peeing Boy Statue, perched on a 200-meter-high cliff.

    After gathering at JR Awa-Ikeda Station, we wheeled and took a JR train to Oboke Station. From Oboke Station, we changed to a local bus to go to Kazura Bridge in Iya Valley!
    Near the Kazura Bridge, there is a place where you can descend to the beautiful Biwa Falls and the Iya River. From there, you will travel along the emerald green Iya River on the old highway that runs along the side of the valley. The beauty of the ever-changing valley is so spectacular that it will make you forget your everyday life. There are many places to see, such as the two-star Michelin-starred “Hinoza Gorge” and the “Pissing Little Boy” standing on a 200-meter cliff! The old road along the Iya Gorge is generally a gentle downhill, so even those who are not confident in their physical strength can enjoy the ride without problems.
    The rest stops along the way are also scenic spots that are sure to be a hit on your Instagram.
    Please enjoy the charm of Iya Gorge that cannot be experienced by car.

     

    Iya Kazura Bridge – 1hour

    Visit the Iya Kazura Bridge, one of the few surviving bridges made by mountain vines in the area. The bridge stretches 45m over the Iya River and suspends 24m above it, giving you a thrilling view of the river below.
    The vines are replaced every three years and ensure a safe and sturdy passage.

    Iya Valley – 3hours

    Enjoy a leisurely ride down a gentle downhill with a Brompton bike through the Iya Valley, taking in the stunning scenery along the way. The vibrant hues of the leaves transform the valley, offering a fresh and beautiful view with each new season.

    Biwa Waterfall – 15min

    Stop by the 50-meter Biwa Waterfall and head down to the nearby river to enjoy the clear stream.

    In this beginner-friendly experience, learn the practice of Kyudo. This includes learning about the proper form, as well as the tools and techniques used. Explore the history of Kyudo and gain a better understanding of this traditional martial art.

    Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our expert instructor, who may not speak flawless English but more than makes up for it with their passion and dedication. We provide top-notch English materials about the captivating art of Kyudo, ensuring a delightful experience as you bond with our teacher through the universal language of gestures and shared enthusiasm for this unique Japanese tradition.

    Please ask our teacher if you have any questions or doubts. He is very friendly and good at teaching Kyudo!

    Please note that our teacher provides hands-on guidance as he shows how to correctly take the proper stance and hold the bow.

    What do I need to bring?

    • Water bottles

    To reduce unnecessary waste we recommend you bring your water bottles. It’s for free to fill them up. We have a filtered drinking water dispenser by the reception. You can get fresh water before and after the tour, so you don’t need to buy any plastic bottles. We would appreciate your cooperation to reduce unnecessary plastic use.

    Philosopher’s Path

    Named for the philosophers who once walked here to reflect, the Philosophy Path runs along the Biwa Canal at the base of Mount Higashiyama. Ride your bike along the canal.

    Nanzen-ji Temple – 1hour

    Visit the famous temple known for its beautiful garden and Sanmon Gate. See the beautiful brick aqueduct of the Lake Biwa Canal, which was built during the Meiji Era and is still in use today.

    Keage Incline – 30mins

    This incline railway was once an integral part of the boat transport system along the Lake Biwa Canal, has been preserved as a site of industrial heritage. Today, it serves as a popular sightseeing spot, especially during cherry blossom season, when the surrounding trees are in full bloom.

    Kyoto Gyoen National Garden – 30mins

    Until the middle of the 19th century, the Kyoto Imperial Palace was the residence of the Emperor of Japan.
