    Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving. This is a rare experience to weave on the high loom used by weavers. All yarn used is silk yarn.

    Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving. This is a rare experience to weave on the high loom used by weavers. All yarn used is silk yarn.
    Choose one of the three courses available: Course A, Course B, Course C (Please check the information for each course down below). Course A or B is easier for those who have used a high loom before.

    Course A: Weaving experience + tour (See red weave pattern in photos)

    • Experience weaving on a high weaving machine and tour the textile workshop. Please note that you can’t take your work home.
    • Capacity: max. 5 participants
    • Average time required: After the explanation each person will experience weaving for about 15 minutes each + workshop tour.

    Course B: Weave and take home + tour (See red weave pattern in photos)

    • Weave a piece of fabric measuring approximately 46 cm x 16.5 cm (patterned portion) and take it home. Tour the textile workshop.
    • Capacity: 1 person
    • Average time required: 3-4 hours weaving + workshop tour.

    Course C: Weave and take home + tour (See blue weave pattern in photos)

    • Weave a piece of fabric with pattern measuring approximately 46 cm x 16 cm and tour the workshop. Silk yarn and partially lame fabric yarn is used.
      In comparison with courses A and B, course C has a different weaving structure and the pattern weaving is increased by one time.
    • Capacity: 1 person 
    • Average time required: 3 hours and 30 minutes experience (varies by person) + ~ 60 minutes workshop tour.

    The costs of taking a Kyudo lesson are usually very high. In this class, all the necessary equipment for Kyudo is prepared for you. All you need is passion and comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely!

    In this beginner-friendly experience, learn the practice of Kyudo. This includes learning about the proper form, as well as the tools and techniques used. Explore the history of Kyudo and gain a better understanding of this traditional martial art.

    Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our expert instructor, who may not speak flawless English but more than makes up for it with their passion and dedication. We provide top-notch English materials about the captivating art of Kyudo, ensuring a delightful experience as you bond with our teacher through the universal language of gestures and shared enthusiasm for this unique Japanese tradition.

    Please ask our teacher if you have any questions or doubts. He is very friendly and good at teaching Kyudo!

    Please note that our teacher provides hands-on guidance as he shows how to correctly take the proper stance and hold the bow.

    What do I need to bring?

    • We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 23 hours or less before the event
    • We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if booking is cancelled 5 days or less before the event

    please note

    • Please note that in some areas you will have to take off your shoes. Please wear or bring socks with you.
    • Height requirement is 150cm+ 
    • Please wear clothes that are easy to move in. Please avoid wearing dresses/skirts and clothes with sleeves that could easily get caught in the machine.
    • Due to the nature of the weaving machine, it could malfunction during the experience. In some cases, we may have to cancel the experience mid-way. Please consider this before making a reservation.
    • Please notify us prior to booking if there are accompanying people who do not wish to participate in the experience as separate entrance fees will apply (Workshop tour)

    Additionally for C Course:

    • It might put strain on your knees and lower back.
    • Please note that the machine can only accommodate weight up to 100kg as the high loom machine was built to fit the physique of Japanese people in the past and is fragile. As a result, the space between the sitting board and the high loom machine is narrow.
      We apologize in advance, but we ask that you refrain from booking this experience if you weigh more than the specified weight limit.

    Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving.

    Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving. Experience traditional twill weaving and create your own farbric piece, approximately 18cm x 18cm in size, which you can then take home as a treasured souvenir (~50 minutes per person).
    After creating your own fabric, take a guided tour of the textile workshop where you will learn about the restored Japanese weaving machines and admire beautiful examples of Nishiki (Japanese brocade) and restored textiles on display (~50-70 minutes).

    • Please note that only one machine is available. Only one person is allowed per weaving machine (taking turns throughout the weaving is not possible)
