There is a saying in Japan that says “Begin with chopsticks, End with chopsticks”, indicating how important chopsticks are to the Japanese people. Although chopsticks are used in many countries, it’s a Japanese custom to have your own set of chopsticks to eat with.

Let’s make our own chopsticks together!

Known to smell nice and be soft to the touch, Kitayama Sugi trees grow in the north of Kyoto. Our workshop uses this wood to make chopsticks. To make your chopsticks, you will use a mini plane (a woodworking tool). Your chopsticks will be stored in a small bag that you will decorate with stencils after you have finished making them. Make your own original items by deciding the chopsticks shape, pattern and the bag’s decoration.
