What is Kyudo: Japanese Archery experience?

Kyudo is often compare to "human life". It is a traditional martial art for training mind and body and is also know as a Japanese form of archery characterized by its long tradition.


Kyudo has some Zen-like principles; specifically, that the mindset is just as important as the techniques. Everyone try to learn new techniques at the beginning. However, you will realize at some point that skill is not the most important part but your mindset is.  Don't you think this awareness benefits every aspect of your life?


Kyudo has 3 main philosophies that are "Shin(真)・Zen(善)・Bi(美)". Let's learn each philosophy together.


◆Shin(真) ~Truth never betray ~

There is a word "seisha hicchu(正射必中)"  means "true shooting, certain hitting".

This means proper posture in shooting will certainly lead you to hit the bull's eye.


Kyudo learners shoot thousands of bows to learn the proper posture.

The bull's eye is a great teacher if your posture was correct or not. Focusing on every bows and pursue " Shin" is professional Kyudo mindset.


Zen(善) ~Goodness in presence of mind~

There is no opponent when you play Kyudo. The only enemy you may find is yourself. The main purpose of Kyudo is face yourself, train mindset and stay presence of mind. Respect and friendship are also important in Kyudo jo(弓道場)" means "Kyudo arena"


Basic spirits for Kyudo leaners are take good care of "etiquette" and "tender loving care".


Bi(美) ~Beauty is combination of Shin(真) and Zen(善)~

Bi(美) only appears once you learn the proper posture and presence of mind. After many years of effort, you will finally express beautiful and ideal shoot.
