    Iai is a Japanese martial art of drawing the sword unannounced. Through this class, experience the art of Iaido with the largest organization in Japan, the Hougyokukai, which legitimately teaches Mugai Ryu.

    Iai is a Japanese martial art of drawing the sword unannounced. Through this class, experience the art of Iaido with the largest organization in Japan, the Hougyokukai, which legitimately teaches Mugai Ryu. Mugai Ryu has a 340-year history and is famous for the Shinsengumi. Tsuji Gettan, the founder of Mugai Ryu, first studied swords in Kyoto and later studied Zen and founded Mugai Ryu in Edo. During the ancestral era many Samurai learned Mugai Ryu.

    You will start your experience by changing into the proper Iaido uniform and being introduced to its art as you begin your practice. You will learn how to draw your sword and hold it properly, as well as how to perform all the correct movements. You are going to have the chance to put your skills to the test and cut a dummy! Following your experience observe a demonstration of the master’s skill. At the end of your experience you will receive a Certificate of Completion.

    Iaido Experience

    The samurai code of conduct is called bushido. This experience will introduce you to Iaido, the predominant swordsmanship style practiced by Samurai. Iaido revolves around the swift and controlled sword drawing to respond to any sudden attacks. From the controlled drawing of the sword, to deftly striking an opponent, and placing the sword back into the scabbard, all are significant components of Iaido. The traditional martial art of Iaido has been practiced by samurai for more than six centuries.

    Discover the true essence of Iaido by learning from a master, and get to slash a cardboard dummy with a sword. Admire the master’s skill up close by watching his demonstration. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion. As you go through the process, you will feel the sense of courtesy and discipline that are samurai values.

    The costs of taking a Kyudo lesson are usually very high. In this class, all the necessary equipment for Kyudo is prepared for you. All you need is passion and comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely!

    In this beginner-friendly experience, learn the practice of Kyudo. This includes learning about the proper form, as well as the tools and techniques used. Explore the history of Kyudo and gain a better understanding of this traditional martial art.

    Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our expert instructor, who may not speak flawless English but more than makes up for it with their passion and dedication. We provide top-notch English materials about the captivating art of Kyudo, ensuring a delightful experience as you bond with our teacher through the universal language of gestures and shared enthusiasm for this unique Japanese tradition.

    Please ask our teacher if you have any questions or doubts. He is very friendly and good at teaching Kyudo!

    Please note that our teacher provides hands-on guidance as he shows how to correctly take the proper stance and hold the bow.

    What do I need to bring?

    • Water bottles

    To reduce unnecessary waste we recommend you bring your water bottles. It’s for free to fill them up. We have a filtered drinking water dispenser by the reception. You can get fresh water before and after the tour, so you don’t need to buy any plastic bottles. We would appreciate your cooperation to reduce unnecessary plastic use.

    In this experience you will learn about Kendo, a modern martial art that holds its origins in the ancient sword fighting style of the Samurai. 

    In this experience you will learn about Kendo, a modern martial art that holds its origins in the ancient sword fighting style of the Samurai.
    At the beginning of the lesson you will change into a Samurai uniform and learn how to bow correctly for a Kendo match. Discover a Dojo of tranquility, learn about Kendo etiquette and practice with a bamboo sword.
    Get to know Kendo and Samurai history better while learning different Kendo fighting techniques. Your newly learned sword techniques will be put to the test in a Kendo match at the end of the lesson!

    We offer the option of booking lunch at a Kendo restaurant, where you can watch videos of Kendo tournaments while enjoying a special Samurai meal. You can take photographs with Samurai armor and shop for Kendo items in the restaurant’s gift shop.
    Please note that the extra lunch option is only available for groups of up to 6 people.

    What do I need to bring?

    • Please wear comfortable clothing.
    • If you wear glasses please change to contact lenses, as you will be wearing a head protector.
    • Shower rooms are available depending on the venue. Please bring your own towel and a change of clothes.

    • Please follow the guide’s instruction during the program. We shall not be responsible for any accident caused by disregard for the instructions.
    • The Dojo or Training place is sacred place for Samurai training, please do not make unnecessary noise and touch things without being instructed.
    • Groups with minimal participants may in certain circumstances, merged with other groups. Please take note.
    • The amount of time allocated for the experience is only an approximation, the whole program might require more or less time depending on situations. Please ensure you have enough time to participate without rushing.
    • Not recommended for pregnant people.
    • Not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions.
