Kyo-Yuzen originally started about 350 years ago in the Genroku era by a man called Yuzensai Miyazaki, who painted on fans. Traditional Kyo-Yuzen crafts are known for their bright and beautiful colors, as Kyoto’s proud contributions to the world. Although there are many varieties of Kyo-Yuzen dyeing, hand-painted Yuzen and stencil Yuzen are the two main types. For 350 years, this traditional technique has been passed down through generations in Kyoto.
This experience allows you to create a type of stencil Yuzen known as “Surikomi Yuzen.” The course is suitable for people who want to try Kyo-Yuzen casually or who wish to create something unique with their friends or family. Pick an item you’d like to decorate, choose the stencils and colors you want to use and create your own original piece. Over 3000 stencils are available.
