Its fifth-generation master, Maryu Sugita, is a contemporary Kyoto ware artist known for her colourful, vibrant painted ceramics, loved for their delicate and feminine craftsmanship. Inspired by various cultures and landscapes, she devotes herself to pottery making and keeping this tradition alive with a refreshing hint of modern.
In this experience, you will explore the unique techniques of ceramic painting used in Kyoto ware. After selecting a vessel, you will use traditional brushes and pigments to apply your own design, guided by techniques passed down through generations.
After the painting session, enjoy a cup of matcha served in one of Maryu Sugita’s tea bowls.
