Autumn in Osaka is a great time to visit. The weather cools down, making it much more comfortable to explore the city without the heavy summer humidity.
From autumn festivals to peaceful walks under the full moon in Osaka Castle Park, there is plenty to experience before the winter takes over. If you are visiting between September and November, here are a few seasonal events worth checking out.
This is one of Osaka’s most famous festivals and definitely the most intense. In the town of Kishiwada, huge wooden floats are pulled through the streets at full speed by teams of local men. Each float is hand-carved and can weigh several tons. It is loud, fast, and packed with energy.
People line the streets to cheer and watch as the floats fly around corners.
If you want to see a side of Japan that is full of raw energy and local pride, this is it.

The Kangetsu-sai, or moon-viewing festival, is held under the full harvest moon at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, a place with a poetic history. The festival focuses on traditional Japanese poetry, especially tanka and haiku, which priests read aloud from the shrine’s famous arched bridge. Following the readings, traditional dance performances add to the cultural atmosphere. It is a special chance to connect with long-standing customs while enjoying the glow of the autumn moon.
