Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving. This is a rare opportunity to weave on the high loom used by weavers, with silk yarn serving as the material.
Guests can choose from three available courses, each offering a different way to experience traditional weaving techniques.
Course A: Weaving Experience + Tour
Experience weaving on a high weaving machine and tour the textile workshop. After an explanation, each participant will experience weaving for approximately 15 minutes. Capacity is up to five participants. Please note that woven work cannot be taken home.
Course B: Weave and Take Home + Tour
Weave a piece of fabric measuring approximately 46 cm x 16.5 cm (patterned portion) and take it home. Includes a textile workshop tour. Capacity is one participant. Average required time is approximately 3–4 hours.
Course C: Weave and Take Home + Tour
Weave a piece of fabric with a patterned area approximately 46 cm x 16 cm and tour the workshop. Silk yarn and partially lame fabric yarn are used. Compared with Course B, Course C uses a different weaving structure and the pattern weaving is increased by one line. Capacity is one participant. Average required time is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, plus approximately 60 minutes for workshop preparation.
